Lovell supports local wildlife by building bee and bug hotel at Weston-super-Mare

Located off Woodside Avenue in Hutton, Foxglove Meadows consists of a collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes, perfectly suited for first-time buyers, growing families and downsizers alike. Alongside 81 open market homes, the development will also deliver 49 affordable homes in partnership with Abri.

The bee and bug hotel is located right by the development’s entrance, and is a prominent feature for residents and visitors to view and enquire about. The hotel was built using re-purposed building materials and natural resources, such as leaves and sticks.

Bug hotels benefit a wide variety of insects, such as ladybirds, bees and spiders. These small structures provide insects with a safe space to gain shelter, lay their eggs, raise their young, hibernate and seek refuge from predators.  

Charlotte Holder, community development co-ordinator at Lovell, said: “I’m delighted that we have installed our very own bee and bug hotel at Foxglove Meadows. Supporting and encouraging the local wildlife which live amongst where we operate is something very important to us at Lovell, and we hope that many insects will call this hotel their new home!

“We’re looking forward to teaching residents and visitors about the benefits of our bug hotel, and perhaps even encouraging them to make their own, or buy a ready-made hotel to keep in their garden.”

Bug hotels can be made using wooden pallets, pine cones, old gardening pots, logs and twigs, dry leaves, bark and other natural items. The best place to build a hotel is on flat ground and in a shaded area that doesn’t receive too much sunlight.

Foxglove Meadows is situated in the peaceful village setting of Hutton, close to Weston-super-Mare’s town centre.
