Morgan Sindall Construction, as principal contractor for Lovell Later Living, has begun their second development to provide independent supported living across Leeds.

The Sycamores – located in Woodlesford - is Morgan Sindall Construction’s second Extra Care scheme for Lovell Later Living, Leeds City Council and integrated housing and care provider Home Group, following the completion of the Greenmill Gardens community wellbeing development in the Seacroft area of Leeds.

The £13.4m scheme is designed to maximise the independence of people requiring on-going care and support, such as those with health conditions and older people. The Sycamores will comprise of 62 one and two-bed self-contained apartments with contemporary kitchen facilities, ensuite bathrooms and a private balcony or patio. The scheme will also include various communal areas and landscaped gardens alongside a community café and hair salon which will be available for use by residents and the local community.

As part of its build programme, Morgan Sindall Construction will undertake a comprehensive social value programme that will be underpinned by a local spend strategy that will see 85% of its supply chain being SMEs.

There will also be a range of employment and training opportunities created, including seven apprenticeships plus work placements for ex-military personnel, and training programmes with Leeds Jobcentre and the Leeds College of Building. The latter will see work experience placements in craft trade and technical roles for construction students.

Members of the site team will also undertake educational engagements in local secondary schools to provide quality careers advice and to promote STEM.

Chris Walker, project manager for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “Through our work at Greenmill Gardens, serving as principal contractor for our sister company Lovell Later Living, we have proven our ability to deliver residences of the highest standards that are designed and built to cater for the often-complex needs of our increasingly aging population.

“Now at The Sycamores we look forward to delivering another scheme that boosts the essential extra-care provision for the people of Leeds, while also providing a training and skills boost for local community.”

Paula Broadbent, Managing Director at Lovell Later Living, commented: “Commencement on site at The Sycamores marks a significant milestone in our partnership with Leeds City Council and Home Group. This is the third development we have delivered in this partnership and the second we are delivering with Morgan Sindall Construction. Its commencement further underlines our commitment to working across Leeds to provide solutions for people in later life and in particular those in need of homes which offer access to caring facilities and personal care services under the same roof.
