Cardiff Dogs Home is less than twenty minutes away from The Mill and offers excellent care for dogs in need throughout the area, from reuniting lost dogs with owners, to taking in strays and abandoned pups, training and socialising them and finding them a loving new home.
Cardiff Dogs Home first received support from Lovell back in 2022 when they donated a fence which was installed by Price Fencing, a Lovell contractor. In 2024, Lovell donated a picnic bench and JLS Electrical services, another Lovell contactor, installed garden lights free of charge.
In March this year, Lovell Community Development Co-ordinators, Meriel Gough and Charlotte Holder, gave three days of volunteering service at Cardiff Dogs Home spanning nine hours, which they spent revitalising the garden space.
Meriel also played a crucial role in securing a Nature Package, valued at £10,000, from Keep Wales Tidy free of charge. The comprehensive package includes essential garden tools, fruit trees, hedging plants, raised beds, wildflower turf, habitat boxes, gravel boards and soil. Additionally, Noorhan Griffiths, Lovell Marketing and Business Development Co-ordinator, filmed and documented the process, meaning that the dogs home has footage to use for future grant applications and fundraising efforts.
Catherine West, Volunteer and Marketing Co-ordinator at Cardiff Dogs Home, said: “We are extremely grateful to Lovell for their support from the very beginning of this project, right through to the end. Meriel and Charlotte have been absolutely amazing and we can’t thank them enough. The dogs, staff and our volunteers are over the moon with the new garden.”

The Mill includes 358 homes for open market sale by Lovell, which have now sold out, and 442 homes for rent – which will be managed by Cadwyn Housing Association – for Tirion Homes. The scheme is going ahead with the support of the Welsh Government and financial backing from the Principality Building Society, and is being developed by Tirion Homes in partnership with Lovell.
