Lovell assistant technical co-ordinator, Olivia Eves, has won the ‘Construction Management Student of the year’ award at City College Norwich. The award was presented to Olivia by the College at her graduation.

Olivia said: “I didn’t know this award was up for grabs, let alone that I had been nominated, so when I received an email from the course leader to say I’d been nominated and won I was rather overwhelmed. Completing my NHD and getting this award means so much to me. Before I joined Lovell, I didn’t have a great start in the industry and was told I wasn’t good enough to do my higher national certificate, let alone my diploma. I think if you’d told 18-year-old me that I’ve finished my HNC, HND, now won this award and I am making good progress at Lovell, who have been so supportive, I wouldn’t have believed it.”

Olivia joined Lovell in February 2022 and has been supported throughout her studies. She said: “I had Lovell colleagues sit in on presentations for assignments, bounce ideas around with me and reassured me to keep going with my qualifications.”

We asked Olivia if she had any advice for women pursuing a career in construction and she said: “Don’t give up, if you really want to do it and have a passion for it, the hard work and commitment will pay off. There are good developers like Lovell and people out there who will support you and get the best out of you. But importantly believe in yourself.”

After graduating, Olivia plans to take a top-up degree and work towards getting promoted and leading on sites.
